ANDY IRONS – KISSED BY GOD (USA, 2018. Director: Steve Jones, 99 min.)
Andy Irons, “the People’s Champ”. Having grown up in very humble circumstances on Kauai, he became the best surfer of the early 2000s after his move to O’ahu’s North Shore and the takeover of the pipe and backdoor line-ups by his “Wolfpak” gang. From 2002 to 2004, he won three world championship titles and dominated Kelly Slater. He was the pride of Hawaii. With the success came the problems: Drug consumption, parties, megalomania and self-doubt. Life as a superstar and the permanent feud with Kelly Slater increasingly gnawed at a surfer who was actually known for his aggressiveness and fearlessness.
Andy took a break in 2009, returned in 2010 and won the Tahiti Pro. In October 2010, Andy Irons was found dead in a hotel room in Texas. The circumstances of his death were kept secret at the request of the sponsors and later also the family.
ANDY IRONS – KISSED BY GOD for the first time tells the story of the Rock’n Roll life and death of one of the greatest surfers of all time.
Bruce Irons, Kelly Slater, Andy’s widow Lyndie and all the others bring out the truth. After eight years of silence they finally speak.
